The Certificate in Healthcare Fundraising is a new intermediate course aimed at staff and volunteers whose role is to maximise income to improve services for members or service users. It has been developed for individuals who are likely to shoulder the responsibility for raising funds while doing many other things. This short course shows you how to attract funds from the lottery, trusts, legacies, corporate bodies and the local community. It will help you plan your projects future fundraising needs and promote your work through developing media and press relations.

If you work in a healthcare organisation and need to become an experienced fundraising all-rounder, this course is designed for you. By the end of the course you will be able to:

  • Prepare quality fundraising literature and make a case for funding
  • Research grants available to you
  • Manage targeted community and legacy fundraising campaigns
  • Plan the future fundraising needs of your project
  • Promote your organization in a variety of media

The Certificate is a six-week online course, with 24 hours of web-based learning and a high level of tutor support. There are six modules to complete with most people studying at a rate of one module per week. Click here to see the course programme and a sample resource.

Who is it for:

  • Volunteers and staff from voluntary healthcare and community health organisations with limited fundraising experience or limited fundraising success to date
  • Fundraisers within Hospices, Hospitals departments and members of Hospital Fundraising and ‘Friends of’ associations
  • Suitable for campaigning, lobbying and advocacy groups, such as disability rights, human rights, drug and alcohol addiction, sexual health, domestic violence and child protection
  • Anyone needing to raise income to set up or run a self help or support group
  • Anyone wanting to expand their fundraising knowledge within the healthcare field and study proven techniques from the sector

What you’ll receive:

  • Level 3 qualification from the Open College
  • Additional accreditation for 'online learning’ skills
  • Support from a personal e-tutor
  • A CD-ROM of course materials
  • Membership of a 'Virtual Classroom’ with other healthcare fundraisers

What you’ll need to participate:

  • 3-4 hours of free time for each week of the course
  • Access to a PC and internet connection
  • You can study from home, work or your local library
  • You choose when to logon to the course website and are not restricted to days or time slots
  • Suitable for anyone who can use email and surf the Internet

Assessment and Accreditation

Certification from the Open College Network requires completion of three online worksheets and a learner diary. All assignments are submitted via the internet. Feedback is given to you in the same way, so you receive speedy and secure feedback on your learning. All assignments are designed to help you learn and apply concepts from the course to your own practice. The learner diary gives you the opportunity to demonstrate knowledge, understanding and skills you have developed during the course.
